Fragmented Ketubah by Mark Podwal

These pages contain works by the artist and book illuminator Mark Podwal. Podwal is a recipient of a National Book Award and the Society of Illustrators’ Silver Medal. He has collaborated with Elie Wiesel on various projects including A Passover Haggadah and a limited edition illustrated edition of Wiesel's collected works. The image to the left is a fragmented
ketubah taken from the children’s book adaptation by Francine Prose of the famous play The Dybbuk by S. Ansky about doomed lovers Leah and Chonon. In this children’s version, the characters live and marry. The ketubah’s fragments come together to outline the form of Chonon, Leah’s beloved.
