Alexander Kohut (1842-1894)

Hungarian Rabbi and scholar came to the United States in 1885 to serve as rabbi of Congregation Ahavat Hesed in New York. he was the author of the Aruch ha-Shalem (a lexicon of talmudic terms) and one of the founders of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. His son George Alexander donated his vast library of Judaica to the Yale Library in 1915.
